The Sawnee Cultural Arts Center (SCAC) was a community collaborative whose purpose is to enrich the lives of youth and adults through the Joy and Awe of the Arts. The SCAC is now gone (updated 12/2007). Some, but not all of its functions were transferred to the cumming playhouse. http://www.playhousecumming.com/
Performing Arts
In 2001, SCAC launched its own children's theatre called Saturday on Stage, and now offers a full season of plays and musicals for children. For information on auditions, classes and summer camps, please call the SCAC office.
Visual Arts
Children ages 20 months to 12 years old are invited to participate in Abrakadoodle art classes at SCAC. Call SCAC for class times and information on Summer Camps.
SCAC is home to the Sawnee Artists Association (SAA). SAA operates the Hamilton Art Gallery on the second floor of SCAC and the Featured Artists exhibit in the main floor corridor. SAA meets on the second Monday of each month at the Center. Membership in the Association is open to advocates and artists of all skill levels. (www.sawneeart.org)
Musical Arts
The Sounds of Sawnee Community Band also calls Cumming home. The Band once gave regular concerts at SCAC and at special events throughout north Georgia. The Band rehearses every Monday evening at 7:30pm and membership is open to musicians of all skill levels in woodwind, brass and percussion. http://www.soundsofsawnee.org/
SCAC operates under a 15-member Board of Directors with a small office staff and the Friends of the Arts volunteer auxiliary. SCAC is an independent non-profit organization and is supported through fundraising, grant seeking, membership dues and community and corporate contributions.
